Radar Extreme - NOAA Doppler App Reviews
Useless outside USA
This app won’t give you regional or local data outside USA… Most of the functions aren’t available.
You have an excellent write up on this application, yet this is a poorly designed and dishonest app, regarding World data. I live in Okinawa Japan you have no Radar, Local data puts me in the Atlantic . Very disappointed..You should take more pride in your products.
The features are like no other. It’s a beautiful design and FULL featured. Much, much more than i got with other much higher paid apps or even comprable priced. IT’S SIMPLY OUTSTANDING in my opinion. A big thanks to this DEV Team :) 5 stars!
Nothing great
Not much of value in this app. Low quality images that are just links to various NOAA pages. Would not spend the money again.
Really?
Radar seems an after thought in this app small and hardly visible you cant get it large enought o see detail… move on nothing happening here.
Great radar app!
Use this app all the time and love it - as a ton of useful information and very easy to navigate among them.
This app came in super handy with the flooding disaster in central florida a few days ago, I was able to view one-hour precipitation and total precipitation to see which areas were being hit the hardest. If you’re looking for a good radar app, this is it.
Don’t believe a word of it. This app’s windows are so small as to render it unusable. If you are looking for local pin-point radar accuracy, forget this nightmare.
If you’re a devolper listen up! Here’s what I want in a radar app for the Mac…. I want FULL SCREEN radar, like the My Radar app, on IOS. Simple, full screeen radar, national composite. I don’t need a million fancy options. I don’t want raw radar feeds. This app has spilt screen radars which doesn’t work. The maps are too small. It displays the raw feeds from NOAA. I don’t like it. I don’t want raw feeds from NOAA, I want a composite radar map that I can pan and zoom all over the nation. I continue to hope that somebody, anybody, out there in the Mac development world finally realizes what I, and 90% of the population want. A FULL SCREEN COMPOSITE SIMPLE RADAR for the Mac.
This is a great app. Has more Radar options than any other Radar app Ive tried, and Ive tried them all. It also has TWO local forecasts and lightning radars and 3d graphics. The window can be resized to any size I want and each radar can be resized as well. A big thank you to the devs :)
This application is fantastic, has a huge amount of radars, and lets me see various sectors of the world and USA. Local weather is accurate, and its a nice bonus that the Map shows hurricane locations. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Waste of 5 bucks
I see the exact same radar at noaa.gov
Great Radar app
Easy to use app that presents many radars at my disposal, much cheaper than other radar apps, and the 3D features are very cool :)
Love it!
Thank you very much, it’s a great app.
viewed on a 15” mbp, the app has an adjustable window & resizable panels within it, the user can resize the radar, resize the satellite views, resize the forecasts. i think Radar Extremes noaa satellite views are better than noaa’s in that they are contained in one of the application’s panels. we live by the ocean & are active sailing, surfing, hiking…it’s great to have a well made weather app all in one big adjustable window & not have to open a browser to surf all the weather sites. for sailboat racing we use GRIBs (gridded binary data) for changing & predictive currents, winds, storms, it’s real nice having an app RE which contains many feaures we want (& need) to play in the sea :) im giving it 4 stars instead of 5 only because i would like to change the interface to 18% gray to tone down the white UI
This radar app is disappointing in a variety of ways: - Current conditions dont display on bottom of window (“No Data", basically, the location information is not properly used. I am in the US, it should be possible to pull current conditions. - The buttons are generally poorly named. For example, satellite imaging is called “World”, National radar mosaic is called “NationaL”, the “Lightning” maps are only avaiable for very limited parts of the US, and the “Map” is an earthquake/hurricane map. Why not provide more descriptive button names. - What is the point of the Solar System view? I am an astronomer by profession, I can’t figure out what the point of the view is other than to add another feature. It moves too fast to be an accurate reflection of where the planets are tonight… just silly. - Doesn’t seem to save settings well. I set up the NEXRAD radar image like I like it, quit, and when I restart all the options are the defaults again.
I can’t see my area on the map because the radar constantly has noise (a big blob of it in the center of the frame), and you cannot zoom in or out, or make the window larger. The window on the right, you cannot move the map around, only fixed views of areas and half of the time it is blank, or moving so fast you can’t tell what is happening. I would really like to have my money back.
No elegance here. Can’t provide local weather forecast and temperatures despite the location being set. Doesn’t update. Predicting snow and giving the temperature as 51 degrees when it is 72 degrees and getting ready to rain. The radar is ok…no local close views. Don’t waste your money. I’m sorry I did!
Better wait until the version number (1.10) gets much higher. This program isn’t ready for general use yet It doesn’t meet the expectations promised. As this review is written, it is 80 degrees in Tucson, AZ, but the program says it is 56 degrees. I’ve named Tucson as my location, but it wants to show me Flagstaff. The 10 day forecast varies widely from local weather and other weather applications. It has potential, but is a long way from hitting the mark as of now.
I’ve got about every concievable weather app out there for both ios and OS X, and this is the geekiest. In a good way. HOWEVER, there are a lot of bugs to be worked on yet, and once they get this thing off the ground and flying, it will be THE BEST.
So annoying
I bought the app and i tried to open it, then it just threw me out of it do not buy. DO NOT BUY!!!!
Radar Extreme
I have this app & it works fine for me on my Mac Pro with OS 19.14.6.
Works again but still buggy.
Crashes every time I try to open it. It worked before the lase update. Now it’s completely useless, junk. What did you do to this app? Didn’t you test it? Don’t you care that your app can’t even open? Your App Store page says it works with 10.12 and above. I’m running the latest MAcOS 10.13 on a 3.4 Ghz 27" iMac. •UPDATE• : I works again after the last update 3.4.3 but it crashed when ever I change the upper right window. At least it’s working now.
Crashes instantly on open
Program crashes instantly on opening. No opportunity at all to figure out what's wrong. Don't even consider ths app until it is fixed.
Radar EXTR
This will not open, i have deleated it from my computer and reinstalle it from the APP store an the same problem occures.
RADAR EXTR
THIS APP WON'T OPEN?! BLINKS OFF BEFORE I CAN EVEN LOOK FOR A PROBLEM? I CAN'T BELIEVE I PAID FOR THIS WEATHER APP! IT'S THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD! HOW ABOUT A REFUND? I'LL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS DEVELOPER EVER AGAIN...NEVER! TRASH!
Horrible
I downloaded this app for school and it is actually quite terrible. There is not way to zoom, pause, or slow down the projections. Very poorly made. Save your money.
It’s ok I guess ...
For my five dollars, can we correct the misspelled city of Fort worth, Texas. Currently, it’s spelled Forth Worth. The correct spelling is, Fort Worth. Thanks in advance.
Very limited
No controls. Very very limited. Just go on line.
Hate it
I have a 2017 iMac 27", 4.2 GHz, i7 Core, 32G Ram' Radeon Pro 580 8GB. This app is very slow in response and quality graphics. Free weather apps are better:(
Very Limited in Scope and Function
This app offers nothing one can't get for free online. You cannot control the animations and cycle through the time periods which can allow you to see exactly when a heavy rain burst (for example) will occur. It offers practically nothing in the way of wind event tracking. Unbeliefvably, it doesn NOT provide NWS storm watches and warnings. At this writing our area is under a wind warning (highest alert level) for high winds and heavy rain and flooding. And of course in typical fashion the Apple App store would not issue a refund when I tried to claim one. I would issue a "no stars" for this if one was available.
2000s nostalgia
i honestlylike it makes me think of the wether channel during the 2000s era i did fine with the location finder and everything else would reccomend to older mac users like mine and in general
Extreme Disappiontment
No local radar information. When it first boots up, I get a quick look at local, then it closes and I get a cover that says “ Information not available now". When will it be available? I’ve had it for a week and no change. It refers me to “Radar Status Message” in upper right - no such thing. No controls, no help. Did I download the app others are raving about or something else?
Buy only if you want eye candy
I teach weather and I was looking for something inexpensive to give live imagery and real-time radar data. To the point — the application has no controls (e.g., zoom, elapse time, specific location, …). It is nothing more than fixed-size image data with limited resolution and limited viewing areas. The application is more Eye Candy than a tool to view radar information. Save your money and go to any of the free weather websites such as Wunderground or Intellicast to get real-time high-resolution radar images. I’m sorry, but I cannot see how this application can be useful, especially since it crashed 3 times when first using it — it is a good example of you get what you pay for.
I should have read the Reviews first
It does not work on my High Sierra system. It crashes everytime I try to launch it. Their customer support has not replied to me. I have reached out to apple for a cancellation and refund. I wish I had read the the other reviews ahead of clicking buy.
Application Crashes Every Time
This App crashes whenever I try to open it. It may have worked prior to OS High Sierra, but it definitely does not now.
Not happy. Looks nastilly skewed in full screen mode. Needs work.
The moment you maximize the window, the map scews out of proportion. This app is designed to run small and was not made to go in to full screen. Its basically a feed from public info. If you pinch to zoom in to the map, everything pixelates; because the source maps are low res. I thought this was going to be noaa’s vector based imaging, but far from it; I regret buying this…
Surprisingly bad
User interace straight out of the 90’s. Sigh….why is weather so hard to get? There is not one good looking, powerful app out there.
More Bark Than Bite
Application purports to be more than it is most notably a hurricane tracker - a hurricane locator maybe but no way a tracker.

At this time best radar app for mac, BUT needs work. I would wait till next version.
